The lawn and garden industry uses two basic methods:
1. "/" separates the first two sets of numbers
Used for smaller and industrial tires, the first set of numbers
(B) identifies the overall section or width of the tire (in this
case, 4.1" wide). The second set of numbers (C) identifies
the section height. This is the measurement from the crown of the
tire to the bead. In the example, the section height is 3.5"
tall. The last number (D) is the rim diameter, which in the example
is 4". The overall diameter of the tire is 3.5 + 3.5 + 4 =
11".
2. "X" separates the first two sets of numbers
The first number (A), "13" in the example, identifies
the overall diameter of the tire. The second number (B) , "500"
in the example, is the section or overall width -5". The last
number (D) represents the rim diameter, in this example "6."
Important: All measurements
should be made when the tire is inflated to its recommended air
pressure.
